This morning, March 30, we woke up with our cell phone giving us a warning that there was a possibility of a tornado in our area.

I don’t know why, but I got to thinking about a hurricane that I was in when I was 15 years old. The year was 1957. The name of the storm was Audrey. I was in its path.  We were at a church campmeeting in Lake Arthur, Louisiana which was on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. (This was the hurricane that wiped out Carron, Louisiana.)

Now I could tell a long story about things that happened in that storm but I think it would take too long.  The thing is storms come into all of our lives. Many times without warning. But all storms come to an end.

It does matter what we do during the storms. If it is going to be bad we must seek shelter.

There are all kinds of storms. Thunderstorms that produce lightning and high winds. Storms that produce tornadoes, storms that produce hurricanes.

But there are also spiritual storms. All of God’s children face spiritual storms at one time or the other in life. Many times they come without warning and unexpected, but they come. So what do we do when we are in the storm?

I am reminded of a song that many of you know well. Let me share the words  because someone may need them now:

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there’s no hiding place.
‘Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky,
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, “There is no need to try,
For there’s no end of sorrow, there’s no hope by and by.”
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I’ll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.

Mosie Lister

Storms will come but we need to remember that all storms will end!
